Another George Bernard Shaw quote (you know, the guy who said the cynical quote under our title?) that I saw today:

You tell 'em George! I dislike those messages which are along the lines of "You can only be who you are" or that you're destined to what you're born to be.
You have choice people! Go make those choices, and become the person you want to be!
